Allison Kent
Licensed Clinical Social Worker
Hi, I'm Allison (she/her)!
My clinical modality is fairly straightforward. I talk to people like they are people. I listen and ask questions. I will work to help you explore challenging patterns, unmet needs, and relationships to better identify ways to create new, healthier behaviors.
Over the past 12 years, I have worked in nonprofit, education, protective services, and mental health. I have particular experience with navigating chronic illnesses, disabilities and sexuality. I have had Type 1 Diabetes for over 30 years. I also use American Sign Language and welcome clients who use sign language to communicate or are part of the Deaf community.
I have a Master’s in Social Welfare from the University of California, Los Angeles and a Master’s in Education from the University of Pittsburgh. My academic research has primarily focused on moral reasoning and Adverse Childhood Experiences.
I have been employed by Goodwill Human Services, University of Pittsburgh, University of California, Berkeley, Community College of Allegheny County, Los Angeles County Department of Children & Family Services, National Center on Deafness, and the Counseling & Wellness Center of Pittsburgh. I have also previously worked in food service, retail, adult entertainment, and summer camps. I continue to serve as a volunteer for the same summer camp I attended as a youth.
I am licensed by the California Board of Behavioral Sciences, LCSW #115665 as well as the Pennsylvania Board of Social Workers, Marriage and Family Therapists and Professional Counselors, LCSW #CW022839. I choose not to be certified by AASECT, EMDRIA or other such organization so that I can best serve my clients without being bound to conduct my practice in any one manner or support systems that create barriers to certification for communities of color, queer folks, and those with disabilities.
