IN-HOME TRAUMA THERAPY INTENSIVES

I come to you!

In-Home or Virtual Trauma Intensives in California

If you have experienced pervasive, complex or a single incident trauma and would like to address it using a ‘bottom up’ approach instead of traditional ‘top down’ in a dynamic way, this might be a solution for you. One of the benefits of doing a trauma intensive is to prioritize this intervention and try to accomplish one to three months of therapy in a matter of days. This modality can help to decrease symptoms and efficiently process traumatic experiences.

QUERIES

Is a Trauma Intensive right for me?

Many people find intensives appealing due to the benefits of scheduling it all at once. Highly motivated individuals, working parents and busy professionals are a fit. Instead of arranging childcare or adjusting work schedules on a weekly basis for months at a time, we can prioritize a few days to make progress on your goals.

Why would I choose In-Home versus an office or virtual?

That is your decision! Some people value the face to face connection. Many people want the option of having the comforts of home available to them. Some people have disabilities and mobility or sensory challenges. Others simply love the convenience of home. This therapy is effective either way. It is up to you!

I live outside of the contiguous counties of Los Angeles, why can’t I do a one-day in-home intensive?

Due to the comprehensive nature of trauma therapy intensives, I am not able to travel round trip for a one day intensive. For longer intensives, I make arrangements to travel and stay locally so that I can rest and prepare to provide you with the best possible services. If you are interested in a one day intensive and you live beyond the contiguous Los Angeles area, please consider the virtual option.

Are you a certified EMDR provider?

No. I am not certified by EMDRIA or any other organization that passes the cost back onto clients or patients seeking mental health treatment. There is no “test” of skill to be certified in EMDR. Once you have completed the required training and consultation (which I have) therapists simply pay an annual fee to be listed as a “certified provider.” This creates unfair barriers to access for both therapists and clients. I am a licensed clinical social worker in the state of California and Pennsylvania. I am a member of the American Board of Clinical Social Work. I have completed training in EMDR, trauma, sexuality, sex, gender, kink, non-monogamy, and disability. I participate in ongoing training and education in all of these areas. If you are looking for an EMDRIA approved provider, you can find one here!

How can I prepare for an In-Home Intensive?

Home Environment - As much as it is appreciated, you do not have to host or entertain me. I do not need any food or beverages provided to me. You must have a safe place for us both to sit facing each other about four to six feet apart. I must be able to have consistent access to the WiFi and an electric outlet. You must have a functioning bathroom that I can use if needed.  You must be dressed as though you are going to leave the house to attend a doctor’s appointment. If you appear to be under the influence, are dressed inappropriately, there is no internet access for more than 15 minutes, or the environment is not safe, our remaining time together will be canceled without a refund.

Privacy & Confidentiality - As this is your home environment, I have no control over the confidentiality or privacy of your space. I cannot guarantee that people will not see me arriving or departing; or if others are home, that they will not hear us speaking.

Pets - If you have pets they cannot be a distraction from our work together. I am not comfortable with birds, rodents, reptiles, insects or arachnids. Please contain these types of pets during our session time. Cats and dogs are welcome to be present as long as they are not a distraction. You will assume all responsibility for caring and attending to your pets.

Why can’t I use my insurance for the intensive?  Why is this such an investment?

Most Health Insurance Companies do not allow in-home or extended therapy services for outpatient settings or people not in crisis. The cost of these intensive services are due to the volume of time spent doing evaluation, treatment planning and clinical work. For context, a typical 53 minute therapy session in California ranges between $130 to $300 dollars. By combining the work of several weeks or months of therapy into one or three days, the cost of weekly sessions are combined.

Cancellation Policy

Cancellations and reschedules are incredibly difficult. I book my sessions months in advance and often am not able to fill last minute cancellations. If you need to cancel, please let me know as soon as possible. I hold this time sacred for you and our work. By blocking out several business days, I am prioritizing this clinical and professional space for you.

If we are able to reschedule within 90 days of our original date, there will be no changes to the cost of the session. Reschedules must be put on the calendar within seven days of the initial schedule change. Only one reschedule is permitted. After 90 days, no refunds will be issued and no future work will be scheduled.

If you cancel more than 14 days prior to your intensive, I will refund half of your investment. If you cancel within 14 days of your scheduled intensive, I will not be able to refund your investment.
