Therapy for the Emotional Reality of Living With Chronic Illness or Disability

Living with disability or chronic illness can affect every part of life. Medical appointments, changing abilities, uncertainty, pain, fatigue, accessibility barriers, relationships, work, sexuality, identity, and the expectations other people place on you can create emotional burdens that are difficult to explain to someone who has never experienced them. Therapy can provide a space where you don't have to minimize those experiences.

Therapy May Address

  • Adjusting to diagnosis or changes in health

  • Parenting a child who is newly diagnosed

  • Medical trauma

  • Grief and loss

  • Disability identity

  • Chronic illness & autoimmune conditions

  • Relationship changes

  • Sexuality and intimacy

  • Self-advocacy

  • ADA law for work, IEP or 504 Support for school

  • Boundaries

  • Changes in work or daily functioning

  • Anxiety about health and uncertainty

  • The emotional impact of living with an unpredictable condition

A disability-informed approach does not assume that your body or disability is the problem that needs to be fixed.

Therapy can instead focus on how you want to live within the realities of your circumstances. Virtual therapy is available throughout California and Pennsylvania.
